About Kim Nelson

I have been a resident of Plymouth for the past 9 years. It has been wonderful to be involved with our community and I have met so many fantastic neighbors. I appreciate the trust that so many of you have in me and I was honored to be appointed as your Ward 1 City Council Member this past March. It is now, humbly, that I ask for your vote for Kim Nelson this November, so I can continue this important work for our city.

I am committed to bringing the civility into politics. We are all neighbors. We should know each other and be able to listen and talk with each other. I believe we all have something we can share with others, and that we all have something we can learn from others. I also believe that good decisions are made when all stakeholders are part of the process. â€‹â€‹

A little bit of background on what drives me. I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1993 with a degree in Political Science and Communications. My work over the years entailed taking on projects others thought were impossible and delivering results. I consider myself a problem solver and work step-by-step towards real solutions.

My passion is advocating for people. I do so in my current role as Deputy Political Director at North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters. There I educate lawmakers and work to deter labor exploitation and human trafficking in the construction industry.  It can oftentimes be difficult work, yet it is rewarding. I bring this same drive and passion to advocating for the people of Plymouth.
